Established in April 2018, Mentors International began its operations in the poverty-stricken district of Makwanpur, Nepal. Comprised of more than 400,000 people, the Makwanpur District is home to many farmers who previously needed access to the financial solutions necessary to start, expand, and sustain a business, which can be especially difficult given the cyclical nature of growing crops.
Our Nepal branch is a joint venture with CHOICE Humanitarian; we’ve formed partnerships with local savings and loan co-ops to help distribute micro-loans to these entrepreneurs, farmers, and other individuals in need. In addition, our staff provides ongoing mentoring and business development training to ensure recipients have the guidance and knowledge they need.

Country Director, CHOICE Nepal (In-Country Partner)
Prateek Sharma
Prateek Sharma was born in Chainpur, Sankhuwasabha district, Eastern Nepal. He was raised in a very small town with his family. His father owned and operated a small medical store. Being surrounded by those living in poverty, made him appreciate the difficulties families in his community faced. When he went to Kathmandu at the age of 18 for further studies, he was dedicated to finding ways to help the poor. While in Kathmandu he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Management.
After graduation, Prateek started his own construction business. Over time he became an “A” class contractor, the highest rating for a contractor from the Nepali government. He oversaw the construction of many public buildings, water and irrigation projects, health centers, and roads. But he never forgot the poor and disadvantaged people in the communities he worked in. He wanted to do something for them, to ease their burdens.
Since June 1, 2016, Prateek has been serving as the CHOICE Nepal Director. He is dedicated to the work and is passionate about continuing progress. With this joint venture between CHOICE Nepal and Mentors International he also serves as the program manager of Mentors Nepal. Mr. Sharma aims to eliminate extreme poverty, maintain transparency within the organization, and ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of all projects.
