Lifting Generations empowers individuals and communities in developing countries to lift themselves from generational poverty and become self-reliant through mentoring and education.
In October 2019, two leading mentoring organizations, Mentors International and Lifting Generations, merged their international and domestic operations, creating one of the largest nonprofit organizations focused on empowering, mentoring, and teaching the world’s poor.
Lifting Generations Focuses on One-On-One Mentoring
Individuals are mentored on how to track income and expenses, pay off debt, and set aside money for savings each month. By providing sustained direction and support, our mentors cultivate a community that lifts everyone involved. They learn how to find and secure a job or how to start their own small business.
Currently we are taking the best of both programs to create a “world-class” mentoring program. During the fourth quarter of 2019 our program managers have personally been training and certifying all of our team to become certified mentors. We are look forward to sharing the impact and success stories from our improved mentoring program.
Knowledge empowers people to change themselves and future generations.
Teaching Employable Skill Sets
The Lifting Generations model includes a curriculum that focuses on personal development, vital job skills, and job placement. In 15-week modules we teach:
- Computer Skills
- Graphic Design
- Sales/Customer Service
- Personal Leadership
Pay It Forward. Students pay for their education by fulfilling a 40-hour obligation of approved service to the community. Over 100,000 service hours were performed during 2019 by our students.
We help our students and program graduates:
- Find employment opportunities
- Prepare resumés
- Ready for the job interview process
We work with local resource centers to seek employment opportunities for both students and mentored clients. We experience a high degree of success placing students and clients in jobs related to the skills acquired in the Learning and Mentoring Centers.
With this merger donations now go to support all of our programs including on-going mentoring, educational training, business training, and access to financial solutions.
Microcredit, or a micro-loan is just one part of the solution in ending extreme poverty. Mentors International provides an array of financial solutions including savings, life insurance options, and independent loans.
During 2018, thanks to generous donations we loaned out over $4.8 million USD to impoverished entrepreneurs throughout the world. The number of families and communities we are able to serve is continually growing.
