Volunteer Mentoring Program
April is National Volunteer Month, and we would like to honor the volunteer mentors that help us reach more and more communities throughout the countries where we serve.
“Mentors are special gifts to the world. They encourage, motivate, reinforce, and guide others to reach their own individual greatness. After all, mentors have the power to transform lives.” – Lonnie Ali.
Last year Mentors International trained 338 individuals to become volunteer mentors. Each of these volunteers completed a structured mentor certification course taught by our professional mentors. After they finished this program, they identified 1-2 individuals they could reach out to and mentor.
These volunteer mentors shared principles of self-reliance and taught individuals to manage their incomes by setting up personal budgets. In addition, these mentors encouraged families to save for the future while counseling them to avoid personal debt. Together they set personal and professional goals.
These volunteer mentors continually reached out and followed up with weekly lessons. During these weekly lessons, other business principles were taught using the entrepreneur manual and training resources that Mentors International developed. In addition, our volunteer mentors shared their personal experiences about how they could improve their businesses by applying the principles they learned from Mentors International.
Our volunteer mentors helped reach more than 300 additional individuals, lifting them to greater self-reliance. These volunteers are extending our impact and increasing the ability of our mentors to help improve even more communities in the developing countries where we serve.
The power of mentoring is transformative for individuals and communities. As a mentor, you become an advocate for a better world. Bringing out the best in others, creating leaders, and empowerment.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Month, we would like to encourage you to get more engaged with Mentors International. Here are a few ways:
