Alice’s Journey: Growing A & K Daycare & Kindergarten in Kenya

From Humble Beginnings to Hopeful Dreams

Alice discovered Mentors International through her sister Lilian, who is herself one of our mentors. From day one, Alice has been deeply committed to serving her community through opening a trusted daycare and kindergarten center providing parents with peace of mind as they work, knowing their little ones are in a safe and nurturing environment.

The Challenges she Faced

  • Running her childcare services from a rented space limited what she could invest in infrastructure, staffing, and future expansion.
  • Alice’s long-term dream is to purchase land and build her own school, moving from renting to owning.

Transformation through Mentorship

Her mentor guided her to set SMART goals: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, while emphasizing the importance of consistent follow-up to turn goals into action. Embracing this approach pushed Alice beyond her comfort zone and helped her prioritize strategic growth and accountability.

Business Growth and Visible Progress

Over the past year, A & K Daycare & Kindergarten has seen remarkable development:

  • Upgraded infrastructure and a safer, more inviting learning environment
  • Expanded staffing to ensure personalized attention and quality care
  • Significant improvement in the overall experience for the children and families served

Alice’s clear vision and willingness to innovate have been key drivers of this success. She’s actively planning the addition of a new playground and more amenities—signals that A & K is positioned for continued expansion.

Alice’s Vision for the Future

  • Owning land and building her own school facility
  • Expanding her services and securing a permanent and growing footprint in the community
  • Continuing to dream big and chart higher goals for her business and the families she serves

Mentorship’s Impact and Legacy

Alice credits Mentors International, and in particular her mentor Coulston, for encouraging her to dream bigger, set bold and achievable objectives, and build a strategic plan centered on growth and impact. Mentorship has given her clarity, confidence, and a structure to turn aspirations into reality and a thriving business.
