Anderson knew how to work hard. He and Marcia had been selling in the markets since they were children, but hard work without a system is just exhaustion. When a family crisis forced Anderson to stop his first attempt at raising chickens, he didn’t just lose his birds; he lost hope. He shared that he felt like he was working in the dark, unsure how to turn effort into actual progress.
Everything changed with a gift from the Giving Machines and the mentoring that followed. The chickens were the catalyst, but the business training was the transformation.
“When I received the chickens, I understood it was a sign of confidence in me,” Anderson says. “Through mentoring, I learned to organize my business, improve my sales, and keep financial records.”
Before, his finances were a blur of cash in and cash out. Through one-on-one sessions, that blur turned into clarity. He stopped guessing and started measuring. He and Marcia began tracking every sale, monitoring customer habits, and prioritizing savings.
Today, they are raising their second cycle of chickens. They opened and are running a physical clothing store, and have begun construction on their own home. By replacing handouts with knowledge, Anderson and Marcia built something that can’t be taken away: self-reliance.
