Ly Has a Future Full of Hope

Ly is a 43-year-old woman from Phnom Penh City, once faced overwhelming hardship. Living with her elderly mother in poverty, she survived on just $50 a month. With no home of her own, she depended on relatives for shelter and often had to borrow money just to get by. Her dream of owning a laundry business felt impossibly out of reach.

But everything changed— when she met her mentor Sina and started attending the business development course from Mentors International in Cambodia.

Ly was able to receive on-going one-on-one mentoring. With the guidance of her mentor Sina, and the tools and confidence she gained through the training, Ly relaunched her laundry business. A supportive cousin helped her rent a small space, and with a single machine and some basic supplies, Ly’s dream began to take shape.

Today, Ly’s business is thriving. She earns a stable income now, has paid off her debts, and—most importantly—no longer needs to borrow money to survive. She can now provide nutritious meals for herself and her mother, cover her mother’s medical expenses, and even set money aside for the future.

“I am grateful for the support of Mentors International, my mentor Sina, and donors,” Ly says. “Their help has transformed my life, and I am now able to take care of my mother and myself.”

Her mentor Sina adds, “Ly is hardworking, patient, and eager to learn. She takes every lesson to heart and applies it to her business. She’s determined to succeed.”

Ly’s story is just one example of the powerful ripple effect of the power of mentoring. Ly now has the tools and support to build a better life.
