The Success of Atiemo Peter from Ghana

He started with a low-quality camera and a DREAM to grow his photography business. Atiemo used his small loans to purchase a better camera. That was just the beginning of Atiemo’s journey. He has kept attending business classes and working with his mentors. Now Atiemo owns his own photography studio. His business continues to grow with the aid of small loans from Mentors Ghana. Atiemo has many customers and leads the photography industry in Abomosu. At home, he is able to eliminate poverty from his life by taking care of his pressing needs, which includes three square meals for his family and paying his sibling’s school fees.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of connecting. What you have caught on film is captured forever.  A picture helps you remember the little things, long after you have forgotten everything,” says Atiemo Peter.

Atiemo Peter is 24 years. He lives in Abomosu, Ghana. Atiemo was able to complete his high school education. Due to financial constraints, he could not enroll in any college classes, so he decided to start-up a business of his own. Atiemo decided he wanted to become a professional photographer. He did not have enough money to buy a quality camera so he bought an old low-quality camera from a friend. His family and friends gave him their business to support him, but due to the low quality of the photos, he was unable to build his photography business. Atiemo did not give up. He continued doing the best he could with the old camera until he discovered Mentors Ghana.

Atiemo was excited to continue his education in business. He soon qualified for a loan from Mentors Ghana and used it to purchase a better camera and a printer. Atiemo successfuly implementing the do’s and don’ts in business he learned from his mentors. According to Atiemo, the knowledge he acquired from Mentors Ghana lead him to adopt the habit of saving, which helped him to pay off his loan in time successfully. Atiemo upgraded his place of business from an old wooden kiosk to a metal container. He then applied for another loan of $520 USD to furnish the container with all the equipment needed for his business.  This included cameras, printers, a photocopier, and a computer.

Atiemo’s business continues to grow and become successful. Initially, his business was just taking pictures, but now he does printing, videos, photographs which includes passport, photocopying, editing, etc. He can serve his customers at the level of their heart’s desire. Atiemo has many customers and leads the photography industry in Abomosu. Currently, Atiemo has an apprentice under his training. He is opening a branch in a nearby town called Ekorso for him to manage. Atiemo says, “I did not only acquire a loan from Mentors Ghana, but also knowledge on how to effectively use the money and also keep track of my business records.
