Leidy is an immigrant from Venezuela and today lives in the Dominican Republic with her husband Daniel and their teenage son.
Leidy shared with us:
“Due to the economic situation and insecurity that Venezuela was experiencing, and with dreams of a better future, we decided to come to the Dominican Republic. We left in 2017 with six suitcases full of hope. We began to sell Venezuelan empanadas and croquettes in our community. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to close our food stand.
As the pandemic restrictions lessoned, we started selling natural juices. But neither of these businesses gave us the results we wanted.
We connected with Mentors International in August 2021 through a church sister. We immediately were interested in attending the Sales and Customer Service Course when she spoke to us. We wanted to apply these skills and start a new cleaning products solution business. This time we hoped our new business would give better results because we had more training and knowledge.
After finishing the course, we started to manufacture our cleaning solutions. We didn’t have many sales starting out, and we were beginning to lose hope. Discouraged that our third business would fail, we sought the help of a business mentor.
With the help and support of our mentor, we realized that the packaging of our cleaning solutions wasn’t very appealing to our customers. I took the graphic design course with the goal of learning how to make our logo and promotional images. This would help us save money because we didn’t have the funds to pay someone else.
During the Sales and Customer Service Course, we learned strategies to help us overcome our fears about selling. Our new logo helps our business look more professional and appealing to our customers.
Our desire to grow our business was and still is very great. We could not stop taking advantage of any help, and we are now receiving business mentoring.
At the suggestion of our mentor, we have legally registered our company and name. We are creating a business plan because our next step is to start wholesale sales.
Today our revenues have greatly improved. Our business is much more successful than our previous ones. Our goal is to continue growing and improving. We are considering making new products to enter the small hotel market.
We are grateful to Mentors International for the opportunities they have given us. It has been a blessing to meet them. I will always be attached to Mentors International and now I am studying English, and I will continue for a long time in the foundation.
