Linda was able to get a job and support not only herself, but her mother as well.

Linda, lives in Malawi and is just three miles from our Center for Education and Learning. Despite the distance, she was determined to better her future and never missed a day of class, walking the journey every day for 15 weeks. She was always willing to lend a hand, as shown in the picture above, where she assisted with a group service project.

Linda’s life wasn’t easy; her father had passed away when she was young, leaving her and her mother to fend for themselves. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to further her education after high school due to financial constraints. However, her fortunes changed when she heard about Mentors International and enrolled in their Microsoft Suite class.

The hard work and dedication paid off when Linda, now armed with a certificate from Mentors International, secured a job at a small stationary shop, using her newly acquired skills. Her income of approximately $55 a month allows her to support herself and her mother, and she is even able to set aside $5 every month for savings, with the dream of one day attending university and continuing her education.

In Linda’s words, “Never underestimate the impact you can have on someone’s life. Take the initiative and help those in need. Your assistance can make all the difference. Thank you for your kindness.”
