It started with a small loan only $77 USD, but it has made a world of difference for the Patron family. Charina used her loan to purchase a hog and she has grown her business from there.

“My family is typical. We live very simple, but we are not afraid of hard work,” explains Charina. In the area of Compostela, Philippines lives Charina Patron with her husband Bobby, and two children, Queen Cebil age 9, and Quiven Jay age 4. They work together with household chores and to generate income. Charina works raising and selling hogs, while her husband works as a laborer on a banana plantation.

Charina felt strongly as a mother, the need to provide better opportunities for her children that she did not have growing up. When she was introduced to Mentors Philippines, she knew she had found THE solution.

Charina was able to complete the business training working with her Mentor. Charina’s income has continually improved as she applies the lessons and principles that her mentors have shared with her.

Today her home now has electricity, her children are healthier and well-fed. She has been able to set a savings account aside for emergencies or opportunities for further business growth.

When asked what her plans are for the future, Charina smiles and says, “I want my children to finish their studies and become whatever they want to be. I want to always have a stable business and help my community. To the people that have made this program possible, I say thank you very much. Because of what you have done, you help many little mothers like me.”
