Serving and Mentoring Since 2022
The COVID-19 pandemic has set back poverty reduction progress in Kenya, causing an estimated two million more people to fall into poverty. It is estimated that 16% of Kenya’s population lives in extreme poverty, earning less than $1.90 per day (World Bank).
Our organization started operations in Kenya in January 2022 and today we have five employees, with plans to hire more as demand grows. We offer mentoring and business training, and virtual vocational training from our Center of Education and Mentoring in Malawi.
With growing numbers we are excited to support the hardworking families in Kenya.

Our organization started operations in Kenya in January 2022 and currently has three employees, with plans to hire more as demand grows. We offer mentoring and business training, and in June 2022, we will begin offering virtual vocational training from our Center of Education and Mentoring in Malawi.
Our business mentors, Millicent and Lilian, are currently mentoring about 40 families, with the number growing. We are excited to support the hardworking families in Kenya.

Country Director
Eric Onyango
Eric Onyango is a Kenyan-born and IT based and business professional. Over the past decade, he has worked in various industries including aviation, IT, and transportation. He graduated with BS in IT and a minor in Business from Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology in Nairobi Kenya.
Eric has founded a couple of businesses in IT and transportation that currently operate in Nairobi Kenya with clients from both private and public sectors.
Eric is currently serving as Kenya Country Director for Mentors International where he oversees day-to-day operations.
Eric’s on-going mission is to fully establish Mentors International in Kenya. This will enable Mentors International to realize its full potential in lifting people from generational poverty through sustainable self-reliance initiatives like small business training and mentorships.
Mentor
Millicent Were
Millicent works as a mentor with Mentors International organization in Kenya. She knows the importance, satisfaction, and happiness that comes from being able to achieve one’s dreams.
Millicent was driven to pursue mentorship from her passion for working and uplifting people from vulnerable communities to become self-reliant. She has worked with and in communities for over three years and in that time has managed to bring change through leadership training programs.
She was educated at AMICUS teachers college and is a certified early childhood teacher. She is also currently pursuing her degree in Applied Management at Brigham Young University. Millicent loves the culture in Nairobi where she was born and has been living there with her family.
In addition to being a mentor Millicent enthusiastically runs her small clothing business. She enjoys spending her free time singing, learning, and experimenting with new cooking skills and crafts.

Mentor
Lilian A. Obuya
Lilian is the oldest of seven children in her family. She loves her family and visits them during the holidays. There wasn’t enough money in her family to go to college after high school so she want to work. After working for some time she was able to apply for the PEF and started college and received a diploma in business management, and later received a bachelor’s degree in Commerce Finance from KCA University. Lilian worked as a teacher assistant at two different colleges. During this time she taught business courses for certificate students.
She took a break from work while she stayed home to take care of her family. Today she uses her business knowledge to mentor others with Mentors International. She is working on an additional degree in Marriage and Family Studies from BYUI.
