Marisela Gonzales is not a stranger to hard work. She gets up around 6 am each morning to go pick up her meat order from a national meat supply company. She then goes to her small shop that is part of the Mercadito de San Judas.

“My customers know that they can count on me to have fresh meat that is very good quality”, say’s Marisela with pride. She runs her meat stand five days a week all by herself.

Bayron is a young man studying at our Learning and Mentoring Center in Managua, Nicaragua. He recently completed our Volunteer Mentoring program. He personally knew that Marisela was struggling to run her meat business. After completing this course Bayron had the knowledge and tools to help MENTOR and support other small business owners. He immediately thought of Marisela.

Bayron has now been mentoring Marisela for about three months. She has learned how to better manage her business thanks to MENTORING from Bayron. She now knows how to track her income and expenses daily. She is becoming very disciplined with her spending. She is also tracking what meat products sell better so that she won’t run out.

Bayron has helped teach her customer service skills so that her meat shop will stand out from others at the Mercadito de San Judas.  Her income has already started improving.

“Thanks to my MENTOR I have been able to learn good principles that have helped me progress. In a short time, I have recognized that I have skills. Today I have a job that makes me feel good. My son is proud of all of my hard work. That is the best feeling in the world,” exclaims Marisela with a smile.

Marisela is a single mother with one son. She loves him very much and wants to give him every opportunity that she didn’t have growing up. Every day he goes to school while Marisela works. After school, he comes and spends time with his mom at her meat shop. She is able to make sure that he keeps up with his studies and completes his homework while spending time together.
