Walking 9 miles a day to get to class

Victoria is a determined 29-year-old, had been tirelessly searching for a job, applying to numerous companies and organizations. Despite her best efforts, she faced constant rejection, often being called for interviews but never landing a job due to her lack of experience and limited computer skills.

Everything changed when Victoria learned about Mentors International through a friend at church. Committed to improving her situation, she made the remarkable decision to walk 9 kilometers every day to attend computer training at the Mentors International education center. Her dedication was unwavering, and she took great joy in participating in the community service activities organized by the school.

After graduating, Victoria wasted no time in resuming her job search. She reapplied to a company that had previously turned her down, but this time with newfound confidence and skills added to her resume. Impressed by her growth, the company offered her a position as a customer service agent at a call center. Victoria excelled in her new role, attributing her success to the computer skills she gained from Mentors International.

After over a year of thriving in her position, Victoria sought out a new challenge, applying for a role as a Statistical Clerk with the Ministry of Health. Out of over 2,000 applicants, she was one of the few selected for the job, a moment that filled her with overwhelming joy.

Her new role offers a flexible schedule, allowing her to wisely plan her time and save money for her future goals. Victoria now intends to enroll in a local college to pursue an accounting degree.

During the 2024 first-term graduation ceremony at Mentors International, Victoria was invited to speak to the graduates. Her journey is a powerful testament to resilience, dedication, and the life-changing impact of education.
